The seaside city of Varna is taking an unprecedented step in animal protection by creating the first national model for prevention and response to animal abuse. On June 29, 2025, the Coordination Center "Zoopatrols" was officially established, aiming to bring about a radical change in public attitudes towards animal treatment.
The innovative initiative involves forming mobile teams that will patrol neighborhoods, focusing on areas with a high concentration of stray animals. Over 7,000 Varna residents have already expressed their support for the project, demonstrating serious civic interest in the cause.
A key element of the strategy is specialized training for volunteers who will be able to recognize signs of violence and provide initial assistance. The center will have comprehensive information channels - distribution of flyers, online communication, and direct community meetings.
The project is the result of extensive collaboration between local administration, non-governmental organizations, and active citizens. The main goal is to build a public culture of responsibility and empathy towards the animal world.
The initiated model is viewed as a potential pilot project that can be adapted in other Bulgarian cities. Experts define "Zoopatrols" as a significant step towards humanizing public attitudes and legislation in the field of animal protection.
