Bulgaria is establishing a National Platform for Glass Collection and Recycling as part of the European "Close the Glass Loop" initiative. The official launch event is being held today in Sofia at the "Sofia Balkan Palace" hotel, starting at 09:30, organizers announced.
The international seminar "Toward an Action Plan for Closing the Glass Loop in Bulgaria" is jointly organized by "BeAGlass Bulgaria", "Ecopack", and the European "Close the Glass Loop" initiative. The forum brings together all key stakeholders in the country's glass packaging value chain to identify ways to more effectively collect and recycle this resource through source separation.
The meeting's agenda includes discussing strategies to optimize separate collection systems to improve both the quality and the overall volume of collected glass. Another key topic is enhancing coordination between the recycling industry, recovery organizations, and local municipalities.
New national recycling strategies will determine how households in Burgas and the region will handle separate waste collection.
Discussions will cover issues regarding the engagement of businesses, institutions, and citizens, as well as opportunities for implementing pilot projects and potential investments in the sector. This activity is part of a broader initiative to develop the circular economy and increase the share of glass packaging that is collected separately and returned to the production cycle.
