Sustainable Development of the Black Sea Coast and Preservation of the Marine Environment

Local authorities of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast discussed the sustainable development of the coastline and the preservation of the marine environment. The forum in Sozopol emphasized the importance of these goals and demonstrated concern for the future of the region.

Sustainable development of coastal zones and the preservation of the marine environment - these are two main priorities that have united the local authorities on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. This became clear during the first panel of the forum "Blue Future for the Black Sea", organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water and Sozopol Municipality on the occasion of Black Sea Day. The mayors of Tsarevo, Primorsko and Pomorie - Marin Kirov, Ivan Gaikov and Ivan Aleksiev - unanimously emphasized the importance of these goals. The forum, which took place in the picturesque seaside town, attracted the attention of the local community and business representatives, demonstrating the growing concern for the future of the region. The second panel of the event was supplemented by a practical demonstration of sampling from a ship near Sozopol, which highlighted the relevance of the topic of preserving marine resources.

The mayor of Tsarevo, Marin Kirov, emphasized the need for sustainable coastal development, noting that the municipalities along the Black Sea coast are successfully implementing good practices. He stressed that the municipality is working on two important projects for water treatment in Ahtopol and Varvara. According to him, the heavy floods that hit the area at the beginning of the month highlighted the need for a more active role for the state in maintaining infrastructure outside urbanized territories. Obviously, the mayor touched on an issue that worries many local residents.

The mayor of Primorsko, Ivan Gaikov, stressed that clean nature is of key importance for a successful tourist season. He announced the municipality's project to build appropriate port infrastructure, which will support the development of the region, and emphasized the need for state support. Gaikov also focused on the importance of sporting events in the waters of Primorsko, adding another emphasis to the vision for the development of the city.

The mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Aleksiev, highlighted the active work of the coastal municipalities to preserve the sea and the stable support they have received from the state in recent years. He pointed out that with the new port, the municipality already has a second beach with a "Blue Flag", which is further proof of the successes achieved. The municipality has been receiving this award for 20 years for one of its beaches. Aleksiev also announced the implementation of several projects related to Pomorie Lake and the fishing port. Within the framework of these projects, two drones for cleaning water surfaces are also planned, financed under the Operational Program "Environment" The discussions at the forum clearly showed the desire of the local authorities to develop and preserve the unique natural wealth of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
