Zoologists made a remarkable discovery in the heart of Assam state, documenting a new representative of the gecko family – Cnemaspis Brahmaputra. Last year's study revealed a specimen with exceptional biological characteristics, enriching scientific knowledge about regional biodiversity.
Precise measurements established that the newly discovered species varies in length between 30.8 and 35.7 millimeters, positioning itself as the second representative of the Cnemaspis genus in northeastern India. The location near the sacred Dirgheswari temple adds additional scientific value to the discovery.
In-depth genetic analysis revealed fundamental differences – 6-7% divergence from the closely related Cnemaspis Assamensis and impressive 21-24% deviations from related species in Sri Lanka. These results confirm the existence of ancient biogeographic connections between different subcontinental ecosystems.
The study, published in the influential scientific journal Taprobanica, demonstrates the exceptional potential for scientific discoveries in the region and confirms the significance of ongoing zoological research.
