A groundbreaking discovery shook the archaeological community in Poland. On July 22, a specialized team from the Underwater Archaeology Center documented a unique artifact - a wooden beam with a precisely carved human face, submerged in Lake Lednica near Poznan.
The finding, dating back to around 967, possesses exceptional artistic and historical value. The craftsmanship is impressive in size - 12 cm in height and 9 cm in width, with preserved details including relief-carved features such as forehead, eyebrows, and beard.
Experts suggest that the artifact is part of ancient defensive structures, directly related to the pivotal period of Christianity's spread among Slavic tribes. The exceptional condition of the wooden beam, covered with centuries-old sediments, allows for a detailed study of its origin.
Leading archaeologists emphasize that the depicted face may possess a deep cult or protective symbolism, revealing the complex religious practices of early Slavic culture. This artifact provides a unique window into the spiritual world of the ancient inhabitants of Polish lands.
