The Assisted Reproduction Unit at UMBAL Burgas is organizing free medical consultations for couples who have experienced pregnancy loss. Specialists will analyze the potential causes of the condition and provide professional assessments and guidance for future steps.
The process will be led by Dr. Aleksandar Kunev, MD, a specialist in assisted reproduction. During the consultation, the specialist will collect a detailed medical history from both partners, including past illnesses, surgeries, infections, medication use, and other factors relevant to reproductive health. If necessary, Dr. Kunev will also order additional tests.
"Pregnancy loss is a traumatic experience for any couple, but it should not go unanswered – it is vital to seek the cause and assess the possibilities for a successful subsequent pregnancy," notes Dr. Kunev. He emphasizes that modern medical capabilities are extensive once an accurate diagnosis is established, adding: "There is no reproductive system disorder that cannot be treated as of today."
This is the hospital's second socially engaged initiative, as last month the unit provided free testing for male factor infertility, the diagnostic results of which are already available. The topic relates to so-called infertility – a condition where pregnancy occurs but is interrupted before a live birth. This is distinct from sterility, where achieving pregnancy is entirely impossible.
These numbers are active on weekdays between 8:00 and 13:00, and appointments are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The Assisted Reproduction Unit at UMBAL Burgas is located on the ground floor of the Surgical Building, with the entrance to the right of the central registration desk.
