The Ukrainian army launched an unprecedented operation against Russian oil infrastructure, successfully attacking two leading Rosneft oil refineries on Saturday – located in the Samara region and Ryazan.
According to the Reuters news agency, the damage is significant. At the Novokuybyshevsk refinery – the 16th largest in the country – the main crude oil processing installation with a daily capacity of 18,900 tons has been put out of commission. Production processes have been completely suspended.
The consequences for the Ryazan refinery – the third most important in the Russian Federation – are no less serious. Of the total three installations, two are completely blocked – with daily capacities of 8,600 and 11,400 tons. The only operational installation of 23,200 tons covers only 48% of standard productivity.
For reference, last year the Ryazan plant processed 13.1 million tons of crude oil, producing 2.3 million tons of gasoline, 3.4 million tons of diesel, 4.2 million tons of fuel oil, and 1 million tons of aviation fuel.
The attack demonstrates the Ukrainian armed forces' ability to deliver high-precision strikes on strategic facilities at a significant distance.
