Every user who has been harmed due to inflated electricity bills will be compensated through direct reimbursement or by deducting the overpaid amount from the next monthly bill. This was stated by the caretaker Minister of Energy, Traycho Traykov, in the program “Sunday 150“ on Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
Even if there is only one person who has been harmed, they must be compensated according to the established legal mechanisms - either with financial resources or by deduction from the next bill, said Traykov.
Yesterday, the minister stated that subscribers with justified complaints about inflated electricity bills will be compensated.
According to him, the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) has established a significant difference between the December and November bills. Part of the explanation is objective – in November 2025, consumption was lower compared to the same month of the previous year, while in December 2025, a substantial increase was recorded compared to December 2024.
Traykov pointed out that at the moment the number of justified complaints is small. Some of the electricity meters, about which signals have been submitted, have been dismantled and provided for expert examination in an independent laboratory in order to establish the correctness of the readings.
The regulator is also checking the hypothesis of a possible “glitch“ – a technical error in the software of the billing systems of the electricity distribution companies. The minister expressed the expectation that the final results of the checks and the full information on the case will be available by the end of February or the beginning of March.
