The Court has decided: Trayan Filipov remains behind bars
The Sofia City Court has decided to keep Trayan Filipov in custody, one of the defendants in the serious accident on "Chelopeshko Shose" in Sofia, in which four people died and others were injured.
The judge pointed out that there is a reasonable assumption of a committed crime and a real danger that the defendant could commit another act.
Arguments of the prosecution
- Driving at nearly 100 km/h over the speed limit.
- Assumption of participation in an illegal race with Vasil Filipov before the collision.
The defense's position
Filipov's lawyer challenged the theory of the race, stating that:
- The blue paint on the car is from the impact with the bus stop, not from contact with another car.
- Trayan Filipov has no criminal record and was rehabilitated 11 years ago.
- According to the defense, the collision with a bus stop and a tree does not in itself pose a high public danger.
However, the court determined that the evidence is sufficient to maintain the remand measure of "detention in custody."
