Tervel Zamfirov brought historic success for Bulgaria after winning the World Cup alpine snowboard race in Bansko. In an extremely contested final, he prevailed over the Austrian Fabian Obmann with a minimal difference of 0.15 seconds and recorded his first victory in a World Cup competition.

The Bulgarian triumph was prepared in the quarterfinals, when the strong performances of Radoslav Yankov and Tervel Zamfirov guaranteed a secure place on the podium. The draw pitted the two against each other in the semi-finals, which meant that one Bulgarian would certainly reach the final battle.

In the first round of direct eliminations, Yankov achieved a prestigious victory over the leader in the overall World Cup standings, Aaron March from Italy. At the same time, Zamfirov eliminated the three-time world champion and winner in Bansko from last season, Andreas Promegger.

In the quarterfinals, Yankov continued his strong riding, eliminating Olympic champion and winner of Saturday's race, Benjamin Karl. Zamfirov, on the other hand, dealt with the Italian Maurizio Bormolini, who made a serious mistake on the track.

In the Bulgarian semi-final under the peak "Todorka", Zamfirov reached the victory after Yankov fell during the descent. In the other semi-final, Fabian Obmann prevailed over the German Yannik Angenend, which formed the final, in which the Bulgarian showed composure and class to climb to the highest step of the podium in front of the home crowd. Zamfirov's success is the second victory for a Bulgarian snowboarder in Bansko. The first was Radoslav Yankov in 2017, when he also recorded a second place. The podium rankings are a total of five, after Yankov also has a third place in 2025.
