Adjustments to the 2026 State Budget
A technical error in the state budget led to an unexpected increase in the salaries of the heads of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency and the EWRC, as well as a surplus of 53 million euros in the budget of the Supreme Judicial Council. Finance Minister Galab Donev confirmed that the inaccuracies have already been corrected.
As of August 1, all salaries of heads of state-owned enterprises will be reduced to the levels of the presidential remuneration.
Key highlights:
- Salary adjustment: The practice of unjustified high remuneration in the energy sector and water utility companies is being terminated.
- SJC Budget: 53 million euros intended for the courts were incorrectly retained in the SJC budget due to a software error.
- Opposition criticism: Vladislav Goranov described the budget as insufficiently reformist and warned of risks related to the fiscal deficit.
Minister Donev defended the need for fiscal changes and emphasized that the state must stop tolerating high salaries in loss-making enterprises while infrastructure problems such as water supply remain unresolved.
