The second day after the official introduction of the euro passed without major problems for taxi drivers in Burgas. People still prefer to pay in leva, and the euro is hardly seen.
"More than 90% of payments are in leva. Euro, I don't even know if anyone has paid," Lyubomir Lambrev, manager of a taxi company in Burgas. According to him, this is normal – customers are used to the lev and are not in a hurry to switch to the new currency standard.
Lambrev explained that some of the taximeters have been automatically reconfigured. "Some of the devices work in euros. They were automatically reconfigured, while the old devices show the price in euros, but they are not automatically transferred to the first position," he specified. Thus, drivers have a choice, but in most cases they still use the lev option.
There are also no problems with the change. "The return is also in leva. We are prepared, we have euros, but we do not have large quantities," Lambrev explained. He added that the calculations are usually done in mind – the fee in leva is taken into account, payment is made in leva and the change is also returned in leva. The euro is used only if the passenger insists, but this is rare.
