MEP Stanislav Stoyanov ("Vazrazhdane"/"Europe of Sovereign Nations") stated that the old European dream no longer exists and that the continent's reality has changed drastically. According to him, the symbols of security, freedom, and prosperity have been replaced by new challenges such as uncontrolled migration, rising social tension, high energy prices, the loss of industries, and an increasingly unattainable decent standard of living.
Commenting on the State of the European Union address delivered by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Stoyanov emphasized that decisions are being made "further and further away from" citizens, as private and corporate interests displace those of the people. In his words, to overcome this, Europe needs a new type of union of sovereign states that stands on a solid foundation once again.
Speaking in the plenary chamber of the European Parliament, the MEP insisted on a fundamental change in the structure and functioning of the Union. A new model built on the will of European peoples, rather than "unelected bosses," is necessary, he stated categorically. Stanislav Stoyanov added that the process of creating something new is already beginning to emerge.
"Vazrazhdane" is a pro-Russian party described by analysts and media as anti-European and anti-NATO. Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022, while the EU and Bulgaria support Ukraine and the sanctions against Moscow.
