Trainee doctors on state-funded clinical specialty places will get at least €1,550.50 a month. The sum is in changes to Ordinance 1 of 2015 on gaining a specialty in the health system, published in the State Gazette.

The rule takes effect today. Until now, pay was set at 2.5 times the national minimum wage. The ordinance now gives a fixed amount in euro.

A few days ago, health minister Katya Ivkova told journalists the ministry was proposing €1,550 for trainees on state-funded places.

The rules for the online portal take effect on 2 November. It will be part of the National Health Information System, and the Health Ministry will build and run it.

The portal will list all vacancies for trainees in clinical specialties advertised under the Labour Code, along with the competitions for them. It will also list places in non-clinical specialties, which universities set, and places for people qualified as dentists.

It will also carry the universities' schedule for the theory part of the courses in their curricula, and the fees they set for taking part. Each registered trainee will have an electronic specialty logbook on the portal.

Ivkova says the portal already works technically, but the rules must change before it can work in full.
