Five national programmes for schools and kindergartens have received a total of €3,003,271 under a decision by the Council of Ministers, the government press office said. The money will pay for training pupils for academic olympiads, lessons outside the classroom and electronic registers in kindergartens.

The biggest sum, €1,066,631, goes to 1,569 kindergartens under the programme "Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Pre-school and School Education". The kindergartens are bringing in e-registers to run their teaching and admin work online.

Under the programme "School Olympiads and Competitions", 541 schools will get €896,053. The money is for extra classes with gifted pupils who are preparing for national and international olympiads and contests. National teams for international contests also train under this programme.

Another €597,748 goes to 229 educational institutions under one module of the programme "Bulgaria – Educational Routes". Lessons in various subjects will take place in research institutes, state institutions, observatories, planetariums, museums, galleries and public libraries.

A total of 219 municipal kindergartens will get €409,575 for projects with innovative and original systems for sharing experience, for modernising their surroundings and for spaces that encourage children's development.

34 schools will get €33,264 for events on major moments in Bulgaria's military history.

The caretaker government approved 24 national programmes for developing education in the next school year on 8 April. The press office said then that more than €115m was set aside for kindergartens and schools, along with new activities in pre-school and school education.
