The municipal administration of Thessaloniki introduced an innovative approach to parking control, which sparked significant public interest. The new strategy involves placing clamps on vehicles whose owners systematically violate rules and avoid paying fines.
According to a statement by Deputy Mayor Konstantinos Tsiapakidis, the method has proven extremely effective from the first day of its implementation. The main goal of the measure is to limit abuses, especially among foreign drivers who traditionally have avoided financial sanctions.
To remove the clamp, drivers are required to pay a fine of 40 euros. Municipal officials release the vehicle only after presenting a document certifying the payment. Local residents support the introduced practice, perceiving it as an effective method for disciplining drivers.
An interesting detail is that the administration plans to maintain the measure even during the upcoming International Fair in September. Despite potential difficulties for visitors, the authorities recommend using the official paid parking lots in the city.
