A teacher at the Petko Rosen secondary school in Burgas's Meden Rudnik district attacked a pupil with special educational needs in front of the whole class, a school employee says in a written complaint. The employee claims school management is trying to hush up the case, even though classroom cameras recorded it.
The employee is anonymous to protect their safety and job, and insists the facts are fully genuine.
The incident happened on Friday, 30 October, at about 9:30am, during a lesson. According to the complaint, the teacher threw the child to the ground, kicked him, slapped him and shoved him again. The teacher denies any blame, the employee says.
The employee believes the school should have told the police, the regional education inspectorate and the child protection agency at once. Instead, the case is being covered up. The author says violence against a child, especially one with special needs, is a gross breach of the law and a crime. They are calling for an urgent check, for the camera footage to be demanded and for a journalistic investigation. In their words, silence makes people accomplices, and the safety of children comes first.
Deputy mayor for education Mihail Nenov said Burgas council has received no information about the case and no complaint from a parent. He said such matters are for the Regional Education Directorate in Burgas, and the council is waiting for a statement from it.
School security staff said head teacher Svetlana Stoeva is on sick leave. None of the three deputy heads agreed to speak on camera.
