Caretaker Government Introduces Fuel Compensation for Households: Who Will Get Help and How?

The caretaker government has announced a new program of compensation for households due to the rising price of fuel. Low-income individuals owning vehicles will be supported, under certain conditions regarding fuel prices. The amount of assistance is 20 euros per month.

The caretaker government has adopted a decision to introduce a temporary program for compensating households due to increased fuel prices. This was announced by the caretaker ministers of labor and social policy and of finance.

Amount of assistance: 20 euros monthly to cover transportation costs.

Eligibility criteria:

Conditions for activation of the measure: The average retail price of gasoline A95 or diesel above 1.60 euros per liter for 3 consecutive days (according to the National Revenue Agency).

Payment method: Through the Social Assistance Agency. Citizens who already receive social benefits will not submit additional applications. Others will apply online or at the agency's offices.

Period of validity: Until June 30, 2026.

Coverage: About 1.38 million people.

Price monitoring: Through data from cash register receipts, received in real time by the National Revenue Agency.
