Caretaker Justice Minister Andrey Yankulov stated that the judicial system should not continue to function with a chief prosecutor who is in office against the law and morality. He commented on the election results, noting a big winner and big losers. According to him, public support for change should be turned into political action.
Yankulov emphasized that the real disaster for the parties seeking to preserve the judicial system shows that citizens understand the need for change. He called for the restoration of legality in the prosecutor's office as a first step, which should not wait for the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). It is important that this election be qualitative, and not hasty.
Yankulov expressed the opinion that the SJC has been given enough chances to realize the situation. He hinted that if the SJC does not take action, the new parliament may decide the case through legislative changes.
It is recalled that in early April, the Ministry of Justice published an analysis of the competency model for senior officials in the judiciary.
