Four days before the early parliamentary elections on April 19, the caretaker government assured that it was taking all actions for a fair vote. The caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov stated at a briefing in the Council of Ministers (CM) this evening that the fight for fair elections is not the job of one institution, but a team game. He and the caretaker Minister of Interior Emil Dechev and the caretaker Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov raised the question of whether the prosecutor's office is working equally with the other institutions on this topic.

The Prime Minister highlighted the role of citizens, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the prosecutor's office in the fight against electoral violations.

The first step is for the citizens – they submit signals, refuse to be part of vicious schemes. The second step is for the Ministry of Interior, which investigates, collects evidence and detains offenders, Gyurov pointed out. According to him, the prosecution is decisive, because there the decision is made "whether justice should be brought to an end".

"The Ministry of Interior said clearly: "Colleagues, do not go home". Now we expect the prosecution to say: "Colleagues, don't let them go", the prime minister commented.

There are 30 prosecutor's files against people with candidate deputy immunity, for whom there is evidence that a crime was committed by them related to the elections, said the Minister of Interior Emil Dechev. The prosecutor's office is in charge – to assess whether they should be charged and request their immunity, he added.

And according to the Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov, the prosecutor's office owes answers for the immunities of the candidates for MPs. He asked whether the lack of action was not due to concerns about the legitimacy of the prosecution leadership.

Earlier today, the last briefing of the Coordination Council for the preparation of the upcoming early parliamentary elections also took place.
