Yordan Tsonev has officially announced that he is leaving active politics. In a statement for "Po sveta i u nas", he indicated that he had made a personal decision as early as last year that "36 years in active politics are enough" and that the time has come for more peace outside of public life.

According to him, he personally requested to be relieved of his leadership positions in the DPS and will no longer be involved in politics. Thus, Tsonev brings to an end his long-standing participation in party and parliamentary governance, in which he was often among the leading figures on key economic and financial topics.

Yordan Tsonev has been an MP in a total of 13 parliaments. His political career at the national level began with the UDF – he became a Member of Parliament in the 38th National Assembly in April 1997. He was later excluded from the leadership of the blue party in 2000.

In 2005, Tsonev returned to parliament, but this time as part of the DPS list in the 40th National Assembly. Since then, in 12 consecutive parliaments, he has been an MP from the movement, becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the party.

In several compositions of the National Assembly, Yordan Tsonev also held the position of chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance, where he was among the main participants in the drafting and defense of the state budget and key financial laws.
