Residents of Burgas spent a difficult night due to a strong and suffocating odor spreading over the city. The first report was made around 12:00 a.m., and the unpleasant smell persisted for several hours.
According to reports on social media, the problem covered a wide area, including the city center and the Zornitsa, Izgrev, Lazur, and Bratya Miladinovi neighborhoods. Some citizens complained of symptoms such as shortness of breath and watery eyes.
The Municipality of Burgas stated that they had received numerous calls from concerned residents. Following the reports, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) and the Lukoil refinery were notified.
As of now, the institutions have not released any official information. It remains unclear whether the source of the odor was refinery operations or a passing tanker in the Bay of Burgas.
