Aftermath of the hurricane storm in Plovdiv
Plovdiv went through a difficult night after torrential rain, hail, and hurricane-force winds struck the city. Fortunately, there is currently no information regarding any injuries.
"There are no people injured after last night's storm, which is the most important thing. I thank all the teams who worked until the early hours," stated the Mayor of Plovdiv, Kostadin Dimitrov.
Damage and consequences
- Over 400 reports were filed with the fire department, with dozens of cars left stranded in the water.
- Fallen trees damaged cars and obstructed traffic on major boulevards such as "Maritsa - south" and in the area of "Skobeleva mayka".
- Lightning strikes caused fires and a breakdown in the contact network at the Central Railway Station.
By the morning, the main traffic arteries were cleared and passable. Teams continue to work with heavy machinery to remove debris from green spaces and sidewalks. All neighborhoods now have normal water and electricity supply.
