A driver died at the scene in a serious accident on the first-class road Sofia – Varna in the area of Bulgarian Izvor, Gabriela Todorova, the spokesperson for the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Lovech, told BTA.
A signal about the incident was received around 6:10 p.m. The collision was between an oncoming semi-trailer truck, traveling in the direction of Varna, and a bus – in the direction of the capital. According to initial information, the bus entered the oncoming lane. Its driver died at the scene.
Inspections are being carried out, and a pre-trial investigation has been initiated at the Regional Police Department in Teteven.
The road is closed, detour routes have been introduced in both directions: for Sofia - through the village of Sopot - Ugurchin - the "Hemus" motorway, and for Varna - along the "Hemus" motorway to road junction road III-307 Ugurchin - Mikre, according to the Road Infrastructure Agency. Traffic is regulated by a team from the "Road Police".
