Another judicial episode of the "Debora" case marks a significant turn, after the local district court made an unexpected decision to change the measure of detention for the main defendant Georgi Georgiev.
The magistrates officially transformed the initial extremely strict measure of "permanent detention" to a "monetary guarantee" with a fixed amount of 25 thousand leva. The key argument for this decision lies in the prolonged period of detention, which, according to court experts, has reduced the initial threat of potential external influence.
The defendant's lawyer, Petko Kanev, emphasized that the long-term stay in arrest has exhausted the initial suspicions regarding potential risks of interference in the already ongoing investigation. This stance was crucial for the change in the court's decision.
The charges against Georgiev remain extremely serious - he is directly linked to inflicting physical and psychological trauma on Debora Mihaylova. Specific charges include injury with a mock knife, forced hair cutting, and threats of murder.
The procedural drama, however, is yet to unfold. The prosecution has already announced that it will take immediate action to appeal the decision, while Georgiev's defense plans to challenge the amount of the specified monetary guarantee.
According to procedural norms, after the expiration of the seven-day appeal period, the case will be transferred for consideration to the District Court. Only after its final decision will it become clear whether Georgiev will actually get a chance for temporary release.
The substantive hearing of the "Debora" case is scheduled for September, which means that the public will only learn the full details of this extremely sensitive case later.
The judicial saga continues, with each subsequent step to be closely monitored by the media and the public.
