The national security services of Moldova are raising the alarm about a large-scale hybrid threat that could compromise the democratic electoral process on September 28. Presidential advisor Stanislav Secriere revealed details about Russia's coordinated information operation.
The Kremlin is using a complex strategy called "matryoshka", which involves the spread of targeted disinformation among Moldovan society. The main goal is to discredit democratic institutions and manipulate public attitudes in favor of pro-Russian political formations.
Moldovan communities abroad are a particularly vulnerable target, whose electoral activity is of critical importance. The information campaign includes precisely targeted actions, including attempts to create tension between political leaders.
President Maya Sandu has repeatedly emphasized the systemic nature of Russian interference. According to her, the strategy encompasses financial injections, cyberattacks, and propaganda channels, whose ultimate goal is to destabilize the region and hinder European integration.
As early as May, pro-Russian information networks launched an operation aimed at compromising the political dialogue between Sandu and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas.
