Russia launched a massive attack on Ukrainian cities overnight on Monday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The attack followed a warning from him about strikes on Christmas.
Ukrainian officials reported at least three deaths, including a four-year-old child. Energy infrastructure was also affected, leaving several regions without electricity.
According to Ukraine, Russia fired over 600 drones and 30 missiles.
Zelenskyy said that people just want to be with their families, at home and safe on Christmas Eve and added that the strikes sent an "extremely clear signal about Russia's priorities" despite ongoing peace talks.
