The project for a large-scale reconstruction of the runway at Burgas Airport will start on November 10th, the airport management announced. The decision, long awaited by passengers and employees, was met with considerable interest.

We remind you that according to information disseminated by the concessionaire "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD at the beginning of the year, the repair works will cover a significant area – about 1000 square meters of the runway itself. In parallel, rehabilitation of approximately 4250 square meters of asphalt on the taxiway is planned. This is a step that demonstrates a serious commitment to improving the infrastructure.

The investment, representing a key part of the company's long-term strategy, aims to ensure sustainable development, as well as to guarantee compliance with all international criteria and requirements for safety and security, "Fraport Bulgaria" clarified. Over 50 million euros will be invested in this ambitious project. The aim is for the repair to be completed on time, which will meet the growing demands for year-round traffic, as it is expected to happen in 2026. In the place where the noise of departing and arriving airplanes is currently heard, the future promises modernized and safe air transport.

This year, the concessionaire repeatedly confirmed that the renovation of the infrastructure will necessitate the temporary closure of the airport. This period is planned to last six months during the winter season of 2025/26. Considering the complexity of the project, this decision was made after careful analysis and discussion.

The runway itself has a rich history. It was built in 1962 and underwent further modernization in 1980. The maintenance of this key infrastructure has been assigned to "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" with the signing of the concession agreement. This reflects a long-term vision for the development of air transport in the region.

As BTA reported last summer, Burgas Airport successfully completed another significant project – the creation of an area with commercial areas and recreation areas. This project is part of the environmentally sustainable concept "Gate Garden". The construction of the space was carried out by the concessionaire "Fraport" AD and the company's commercial partners. This fact shows that the efforts to improve the infrastructure and passenger service are continuous.
