A nine-kilometer section of the Trakia Motorway towards Burgas will undergo preventive repairs, the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) announced.

The repair works, starting on September 23, will cover kilometers 24 to 33 of the motorway, within the Sofia region.

For the duration of the repairs, traffic in the Burgas lane will be completely blocked. Drivers will be redirected to the Sofia lane, where two-way traffic will be implemented.

To optimize traffic, API has introduced a reversible lane system for every Friday and Saturday. From 12:00 on Friday to 15:00 on Saturday, two lanes will be available for traffic towards Burgas and only one for Sofia. From 15:00 on Saturday to 12:00 on Sunday, the reverse scheme will apply – one lane for Burgas and two for Sofia. This is expected to significantly alleviate congestion during peak hours.

The technological project envisages a complete replacement of the asphalt pavement. As part of the repairs, drainage works will be carried out, road signs and barrier systems will be renewed, new markings will be applied, and other improvements aimed at increasing safety and travel comfort will be implemented.

Repair works will be carried out daily to complete the project as quickly as possible. The repair is expected to be completed by November 10. The work is being carried out by "Avtomagistrali" EAD under a contract for current repair and maintenance of the Trakia Motorway.

The continuation of the repairs is a logical continuation of the activities carried out in the spring of 2025, when sections of the motorway in the Sofia, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv and Sliven regions were repaired. At that time, 12 kilometers of the Burgas lane were rehabilitated, between kilometers 11 and 23. The current repair covers the immediately following section in the same lane.
