Record heat in Western Europe

Great Britain recorded its hottest day of the year, with thermometers in West London reading 38.1 degrees Celsius. This is the latest heatwave to hit Europe since May.

"When nursing staff are collapsing in the heat, it shows just how badly they have been let down by a lack of investment in basic infrastructure," says Nicola Ranger from the Royal College of Nursing.

Infrastructure problems

As the heatwave moves eastward, governments are under pressure to take urgent measures to adapt to climate change.
