Following a key meeting between representatives of GERB, "BSP – United Left", and ITN, it became clear that Raya Nazaryan will take the position of Speaker of the National Assembly. The news was disseminated by GERB through a publication on the social network Facebook, provoking a wave of comments and speculation regarding the future management of the parliament.
Furthermore, GERB clarified that the rotation of the speaker's position will be carried out every 10 months. This decision is at the heart of a new political approach to the management of the legislative body.
Today, the Council for Joint Governance (CJG) decided to introduce rotational speakership in parliament, a step that reflects the desire for broader coalition participation. At a briefing in parliament, after the CJG meeting, the chairman of the council, Kostadin Angelov (GERB-SDS), announced: "We have decided to introduce rotational speakership of the National Assembly; tomorrow this will be written as an annex to the agreement on joint governance." Angelov added that after signing the annex, the rotation is expected to become a fact, a detail that will clarify the procedure for changing the speakers.
On Sunday, the National Council of BSP officially approved the proposal for rotational speakership, giving a clear signal of support for the new format. The decision was supported by an impressive 100 votes "for", while only three abstained and two voted "against", which highlights the unity within the party on this issue. Zafirov, a BSP representative, emphasized the importance of what is stipulated in the agreement on joint governance, insisting: "We insist that the rotational principle be explicitly enshrined in the agreement on joint governance and that a comprehensive review of the policies agreed in it be carried out." He added that the decision reflects political responsibility and consistency in the commitments to the stability of governance.
On October 21, it became known that GERB and ITN had raised the issue of rotational speakership of the National Assembly at the CJG meeting, which highlights the importance of the partnership between the different political forces. The decision to introduce rotational speakership demonstrates a willingness to compromise and cooperate, which is critical for the governance of the state.
