Breast cancer, a treacherous disease that affects many women, is once again in the spotlight. This illness, which changes the lives of the entire family, not just the affected women, is the leading topic in October at the Comprehensive Oncological Center (COC) - Burgas.
In a tradition that is already established, this year the medical institution dedicates the month to raising awareness of breast cancer and providing opportunities for prevention. The emphasis is placed on early diagnosis, which is key to the successful treatment of this disease. The campaign, bearing the symbolic name "The White Swallow", aims to draw attention to the problem and offer specific help to those in need.
The campaign is aimed at women in the age group of 35 to 50 years, especially those with a family history, i.e. women whose close relatives on their mother's side – grandmothers, mothers or aunts – have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Within the framework of the campaign, free preventive examinations are planned, which will be performed by specialists. The examinations include a manual examination (palpation) of the mammary gland and regional lymph nodes. If necessary, additional tests such as ultrasound or mammography will be ordered to provide the most detailed picture possible.
Women wishing to take advantage of the free screenings can register in two ways. Consultations will be held from October 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025, every week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Surgical Office – 204 of the Diagnostic and Consultation Block in COC-Burgas. Registrations for an examination are possible by phone 056/82 01 42 or on site at the registry of the polyclinic of COC-Burgas.
However, the initiative does not stop there. The medical institution emphasizes that their efforts continue throughout the year. "However, we are not just taking one step, but continuing after that," say COC - Burgas. Therefore, in October, in the spirit of the fight against the treacherous disease, they will once again stand shoulder to shoulder with their patients. "This diagnosis is not a sentence, but life continues with it," is the motto of the campaign.
In the middle of the month, on October 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the Regional Library "Peyo Yavorov", conference hall, a special event will be held. The organizers promise an evening combining laughter, inspiration and cinema. The event will begin with a stand-up comedy "The World of the Housewife" with Denitsa Kichukov, actress, stand-up comedian and talented storyteller. This will be followed by an official hour with inspiring lecturers, and the finale is reserved for short films, accompanied by a glass of prosecco.
The event promises to bring together everyone who is struggling with the disease. Both optimism and solidarity can be felt in the atmosphere. In front of the hall, probably, dozens of people will gather, sympathetic to the cause.
Breast cancer is a complex disease that requires extensive knowledge and experience, emphasize COC - Burgas. "We have been working to create this team for over a year and we are already seeing a change," they add. The specialized team created, which focuses its attention on the specific case of each patient with breast carcinoma, is already an established practice.
