Radev: Bulgaria and Ukraine can build the Belene NPP together
During a parliamentary question time, Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced that he had proposed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the joint construction of the Belene NPP with the help of European funds. The idea is for electricity from the plant to be delivered to Ukraine through the territory of Romania.
This is our position and I think it will be beneficial for Bulgaria if it happens, the Prime Minister stated.
Status of the agreement with Ukraine
In response to a question from "Vazrazhdane" leader Kostadin Kostadinov, Radev was categorical that Bulgaria will not cancel the agreement with Ukraine. According to him, the document does not contain specifics, deadlines, or real actions for providing aid, but is aimed at exploring possibilities for support.
- Institutionality: State treaties must be respected regardless of who signed them.
- Content: The agreement concerns the study of the Bulgarian language, the rights of minorities, the fight against mines in the Black Sea, and nuclear safety.
- Commitments: "We continue to explore, we have not made any concrete commitment," the Prime Minister added.
Radev emphasized that Bulgaria will continue to act in the spirit of observing international law, without taking on ill-considered risks or unaffordable commitments.
