President Rumen Radev stated that Peevski and Borisov are dismantling the state. He commented on the events before the media, highlighting the referendum, the protests, the state of the institutions, and the war in Ukraine.
“I want to congratulate all Bulgarian citizens who are fighting for the referendum, but also those who are protesting against the abuses of power. They have different motivations, but one common cause, and that is Bulgaria, because Peevski and Borisov are dismantling the state. By refusing to consider the referendum, the ruling authorities trampled on the Constitution and the rights of Bulgarians. The government may have the external signs of such - limousines, offices with a coat of arms, microphones, but it no longer has legitimacy and does not hesitate to use the captured institutions as clubs. The anger from the lawlessness will fall upon those who provoke it. This is a painful, but inevitable scenario when politicians refuse to hear the voice of the people. It is most important for the people to realize where Bulgaria is going with this type of behind-the-scenes governance, it is not even behind-the-scenes anymore - it is obvious. Above the government we have a superstructure that does not lead Bulgaria either to Europe or to a normal democracy.”
Asked about the closure of Air Detachment 28, Radev replied:
“The trademark of the leader of the government, who sits in the first row in parliament, in front of the cameras, but flies to Dubai every week with a private 'Falcon', is to ruin and sell everything he touches. If we let him run riot - the state is next. For now, I have heard their intentions, we will see what actions they will lead to.”
The President also commented on proposals by Donald Trump for a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.
“For 3 years, if you remember, I have been warning about the inevitable, but some preferred utopia and weapons over reality and diplomacy. And diplomacy could have prevented the loss of many, many human lives and huge destruction.”
