Extreme heatwave in Turkey
Meteorologists in Turkey are warning of upcoming "desert heat" in the country over the next three days. In some provinces, the mercury in thermometers is likely to exceed the critical 40 degrees.
It will be hottest in the regions around the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.
Where will it be the hottest?
- Aydın: 41 degrees are expected as early as Tuesday.
- Antalya: On Wednesday, temperatures may reach up to 45 degrees in the shade.
- Ankara: Temperatures will remain around 35 degrees.
- Istanbul: The mercury will show around 33 degrees.
What's next?
From Wednesday onwards, forecasts indicate a slight cooling in the Marmara region, but with a chance of thunderstorms. Authorities are reminding citizens and tourists to consume more fluids and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. A similar warning was issued yesterday by the Greek authorities.
