Ministry of Justice inspection in Varna
Deputy Minister of Justice Stanimir Stanev and the Director General of the General Directorate of Execution of Punishments (GDEP), Ivaylo Yordanov, conducted a large-scale inspection of the conditions at the Varna Prison, the detention facilities, and the "Razdelna" and "Varna" prison hostels. The Director of the General Directorate "Security" (GDS), Alexander Arabadzhiev, also participated in the inspection.
The main goal of the inspection is to assess the current state of the penal institutions and to analyze the management's efforts in addressing emerging issues.
Security and the fight against illegal items
Over the past year, prisons in our country have faced serious security challenges:
- Drugs: The issue with the distribution of synthetic drugs, known as "spice," which are difficult to detect with field tests.
- Contraband: Attempts to smuggle mobile phones using ingenious methods – hidden in food products (melons), household appliances (stoves), and medicine packaging.
The inspection aims to tighten control over incoming items and ensure compliance with order in the penal institutions.
