Weather Forecast: Weather Changes, Rain and Hail Coming

Burgas, Bulgaria – Agency bulletin.

After a series of sunny days, the weather in the country is about to undergo a serious change. Forecasters from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) are predicting a cooling and the onset of an unstable atmospheric situation, which will bring short but intense rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and a risk of hail.

Detailed Forecast for Tomorrow

Tomorrow, a cold atmospheric front will pass over most of the country from west to east, bringing significant cloud cover – predominantly cumulus and cumulonimbus. Around and after noon, the phenomena will begin in Western and Central Bulgaria, gradually extending to the eastern regions by evening. The forecast is for brief showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and an increase in wind. The phenomena will be particularly intense in the mountainous and northern regions of the country, where there are also conditions for hail.

The wind will be light to moderate, from the east-southeast, but in Western Bulgaria, it will turn from the west-northwest in the evening. Maximum temperatures will range widely – from 28° to 33°, with the capital expecting around 29°.

Situation on the Black Sea Coast and in the Mountains

On the Black Sea coast, the cloud cover is expected to be broken, increasing to significant in the afternoon – medium and high. Visibility will be reduced in some places in the morning hours. A light to moderate wind will blow from the east-southeast. Temperatures will be lower than in the interior of the country, with maximums reaching 26°-27°. The sea water will have a temperature between 24° and 25°, and the sea state will be from 2 to 3 balls.

In the mountains, the cloud cover will be more often significant, with cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds developing over the massifs of Western and Central Bulgaria. Forecasts are for brief, temporarily intense and significant rainfall with thunderstorms. The wind will be up to moderate, from the south-southwest. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around 23°, while at 2000 meters it will drop to about 16°.

Forecast for the Weekend

The change in the meteorological situation will continue in the coming days. On Friday, the cloud cover will be more often significant, with cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds developing around and after noon. Brief rainfall is expected in many places, with an increased likelihood of being intense and accompanied by thunderstorm activity. More serious phenomena are forecast for the night leading into Friday and the morning in Northeastern Bulgaria, and during the day in the regions of the Central Balkan Mountains and the Western Rhodopes. The wind will be light to moderate, from the north-northeast. Maximum temperatures will vary significantly – from 22°-24° in the northeastern regions to 30°-32° in the eastern part of the Upper Thracian Plain, where there will also be more hours of sunshine.

On Saturday, daytime temperatures will also drop in the eastern regions, with maximums between 25° and 30°. In Eastern Bulgaria, the wind will be predominantly moderate, from the east-northeast. The cloud cover will be variable, and in the western part of the country, it will be more often significant in the afternoon. Although rainfall will continue in the central and mountainous regions, it will be mostly light.
