What to expect in Bulgaria in May?
According to the forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), the month of May will be diverse, starting with a relatively cold period but ending with warmer days.
Anastasia Kirilova, a synoptician at NIMH, reported that the lowest temperatures in May will be between 0 and 5 degrees, while in some regions they may even reach minus 2 or minus 3 degrees.
Distribution by periods:
- First ten-day period: Cold weather with rain, and in mountains above 1000 meters – also snow. Towards the middle of the period, precipitation will stop and sunny weather will establish.
- Second ten-day period: Temperatures will be higher than usual. Between May 12 and May 16, there is a probability of short-term showers with thunderstorms.
- Third ten-day period: At the beginning of the period, cloudiness and storms are expected, but at the end of the month, the weather will be sunny and relatively warm.
Temperatures and precipitation:
The average monthly temperature is expected to be around or above normal (between 16 and 19 degrees in most of the country). Regarding precipitation, it will be within the normal range – between 50 and 70 liters per sq. m in the lower parts of the country.
