Prof. Milen Baltov Re-elected as Rector of Burgas Free University

The Board of Trustees of Burgas Free University re-elected Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov as Rector. The honor comes for his contribution to the development of the university, including increasing the number of students and international positioning.

The Board of Trustees of Burgas Free University (BFU) unanimously re-elected Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov as Rector at its meeting, the higher education institution in the seaside city announced.

This will be his second term in office. The Board of Trustees of BFU highly appreciated his contribution to the increase in the number of students and doctoral students, especially foreign ones, as well as the positioning of the university on an international level. At the first meeting of the newly elected Academic Council, vice-rectors and deans are to be elected, the educational institution added.

Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov has been working at BFU since 2005. Before becoming Rector for the first time in 2022, he held the position of Vice-Rector for Research and Educational Activities. For many years he has been an expert and coordinator of projects for the development of innovations, industrial zones and the creation of intermediate project units in Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia and Kazakhstan. He is currently a holder of business disciplines and head of a doctoral program in "Economics and Management in Industry", as well as head of doctoral students from Bulgaria, India, Germany, Nepal and Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Bulgaria, a member of the Board of Rectors of the European University of Island, Port and Coastal Territories and a representative of Bulgaria in the group of higher stakeholders for the "Strategy for Research and Innovation in the Black Sea Basin" to the European Commission. He is a delegate to the Program Committee for the "European Innovation Council" in the "Horizon Europe" framework program and a key panelist in the consultation process for the future European Strategy for the development of research and innovation in the oceans and seas. BTA recalls that in 2024, Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov and the Director General of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev signed a cooperation agreement in the agency's national press club in Burgas.
