The capacity of the water and sewerage network in the southern regions of Varna is exhausted and there is no possibility of connecting new subscribers. Currently, in the "Asparuhovo" and "Galata" districts, as well as in the nearby settlements, there is intensive construction, and investor interest continues to grow.
The water for the Varna region "Asparuhovo" comes through a single cast iron pipe with a diameter of 500 millimeters. It passes under the two sea-lake canals and reaches the "Karantinata" area. From there, it is pumped up a steep slope, through a landslide area, and passes through private properties.
According to Eng. Veselin Rusev, manager of Water and Sewerage - Varna, the solution includes the construction of a new pumping station in the area of the "Karantinata" port, a new pipeline to Krasta and the meadows, as well as a second pipe for the high areas. There is great investor interest there.
There is a risk that due to the limited capacity of the pipe and the connection of new subscribers, there will be a serious water shortage. Eng. Rusev points out as a solution the design of a new route with a new diameter and material, as well as the construction of a reservoir.
According to Eng. Rusev, Varna Municipality continues to issue building permits south of the Asparuhov Bridge, despite the restrictions. Water and Sewerage has alerted the municipality about the problem as early as May.
The Municipality explains that stopping the permits will affect residents who are building single-family houses. The complex situation is also due to omissions in the design of infrastructure facilities, such as the "Asparuhovo" - "Galata" road, where, according to Water and Sewerage, the main routes should be located.
Investments in the water supply network are based on projects from 2016, and the actual construction activities for the water cycle of Varna will begin in 2023.
Deputy Mayor Plamen Kitipov notes that the southern regions have not been a priority until now. Funding is being sought for a pre-project study. Water and Sewerage - Varna will prepare a roadmap for the construction of new infrastructure.
