President Rumen Radev announced the start of the 23rd edition of the charity initiative “Bulgarian Christmas” at a ceremonial event at the University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) “Alexandrovska” in Sofia.

The event was opened by the director of the hospital, Prof. Atanas Yonkov, who emphasized the importance of the hospital and its Pediatric Clinic for the development of children's healthcare in our country. He recalled that UMBAL “Alexandrovska” is the oldest university hospital in Bulgaria, established in 1879, and the pediatric clinic, founded in 1900, is the first children's medical unit in the country.

On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the clinic's establishment and for its exceptional contribution to the treatment of children and the development of medical science, Radev presented the honorary sign of the President. The award was received by the current head of the clinic, Prof. Gergana Petrova, in the presence of Prof. Penka Perenovska, who headed the unit in the period 2006–2022.
