Min Jun-ki, the special prosecutor, officially filed new charges against the former President of South Korea Yun Suk-yol, the national news agency "Yonhap" reported today. The investigation focuses on critical violations committed during his presidency, especially related to the introduction of a state of emergency in December last year.

Last week, a local court sanctioned the arrest of the politician, adopting the investigators' arguments that there is a serious risk of evidence destruction. The new procedural charges include several serious crimes against state governance.

The official procedural position qualifies Yun's actions as obstructing civil rights through abuse of presidential powers. The specific charges cover deliberate erasure of official records, opposition to lawful arrests, and violation of official duties.

The prosecution had already raised initial charges of incitement to riot - a crime that can lead to a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty. Charges of falsifying official documents are now being added to these.

The Constitutional Court of South Korea officially removed Yun Suk-yol from the presidential office after a thorough investigation of his actions. The subsequent political crisis led to early presidential elections, which were won by the opposition liberals' candidate Lee Jae-myung.

The current expanded indictment emphasizes the seriousness of the violations and demonstrates the judicial system's determination to hold high-ranking government officials accountable, regardless of their previous status.

The special prosecutorial team held a detailed briefing where they presented the details of the new charges, highlighting the need for a comprehensive investigation of all aspects of Yun's presidential administration.

The case continues to cause significant public and media interest in South Korea, demonstrating the importance of the rule of law and institutional control over the executive branch.
