The Council of Ministers proposed to the National Assembly to withdraw the Draft Law on the State Budget for 2026, the government press service announced.

The decision was made at a non-attendance meeting of the government. With the same decision, the draft laws for the budgets of the National Health Insurance Fund and the State Social Security are also withdrawn.

The government's decision has already been sent to the National Assembly. After a decision by the parliament, the cabinet will begin a new budget procedure.

Yesterday, a protest filled the square in front of the Presidency, the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. Citizens protested against the draft budget for 2026 in Sofia and in other cities in the country. The organizers of the discontent were from "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB), and the reason – the refusal of GERB leader Boyko Borisov to have the draft budget for the next year, already submitted to parliament, withdrawn. In the late hours in the capital, there were also disturbances.
