Ambassador Gergana Karadjova Presents Credentials to the UN Secretary-General

On December 3, 2025, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova presented her credentials to the UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres. During the meeting, she reaffirmed Bulgaria's support for the UN and emphasized the significance of the 70th anniversary of our membership.

On December 3, 2025, at an official ceremony held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the UN, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, presented her credentials to the UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres.

During the subsequent meeting, Ambassador Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria's strong support for the UN and for the role of multilateralism as a path to peace, upholding human rights, and sustainable development. Ambassador Karadjova emphasized the symbolic nature of the year in which Bulgaria marks the 70th anniversary of its membership in the UN, and the Organization its 80th anniversary, pointing out that it is of paramount importance to ensure the success of the UN revitalization process, including with the help of the UN80 initiative. She assured the Secretary-General of our country's continued commitment to the UN, including in the context of the process of strengthening the UN's capacity to be a factor for positive change in the world. She also confirmed Bulgaria's priority for upholding human rights, including the empowerment of women and children's rights. Ambassador Karadjova also highlighted Bulgaria's constructive role in promoting peace and security both within the UN, and in a regional and European context.

Secretary-General Guterres welcomed Ambassador Karadjova to her new position and expressed his support for Bulgaria's continued active participation in various processes and in the activities of UN bodies, including in the reform process – UN80. The Secretary-General shared his positive assessment of Bulgaria's role in the context of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and assured that Bulgaria can count on the support of the UN in upholding our common values both globally and regionally.
