The price of diesel at gas stations in Bulgaria has increased by 37 percent since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East, and the price of gasoline - by 18.7 percent, according to data released today on the website of the National Revenue Agency (NRA).

The average price of diesel in Bulgaria has reached 1.74 euros as of Saturday, April 4, which represents an increase of 37 percent compared to February 28, when the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran.

For the same five-week period, the average retail price of gasoline A95 has increased by 18.7 percent - to 1.46 euros per liter, according to NRA data.

The NRA publishes the current average retail prices of fuels daily on its website, as well as monthly statistical data on the change in the prices of diesel and gasoline A95. Information from fiscal receipts issued at the sale of fuels, which the NRA receives from traders, is taken for the calculation of the average prices.

On February 28, the average price of gasoline A95 in Bulgaria was 1.23 euros per liter, and of diesel fuel - 1.27 euros per liter.

After the start of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran at the end of February and the subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes against countries in the region, the prices of crude oil rose sharply, which led to an increase in fuel prices around the world. Many countries have introduced measures to counter the rising cost of energy.

In Bulgaria, the caretaker government of Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov approved the “Program for compensating individuals for the increased fuel prices after the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East on 28.02.2026.”.

Thus, end consumers of gasoline A95 and diesel can use a monthly compensation of 20 euros if for three consecutive days the price per liter of fuel gasoline A95 or diesel reaches and exceeds 1.60 euros. The average price of diesel fuel registered three consecutive days at the level of 1.60 euros per liter on March 24, with which the measure came into force.

All individuals who received an average monthly income in 2025 of less than or equal to 652.41 euros, or twice the poverty line for that period, or an average monthly gross income for 2024 of less than or equal to 537.88 euros, or twice the poverty line for 2024, are entitled to the compensation.

The caretaker Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Hassan Ademore, stated today that about 50,900 applications have been submitted for the additional compensation of 20 euros for the rising fuel prices. Additional applications are also expected through the Ministry of Electronic Governance, with which the finally submitted applications will probably exceed 60,000, added Ademore.
