In a sharp interview for the "Politically Incorrect" show on Bulgarian National Radio, the leader of "We Continue the Change" Asen Vasilev revealed large-scale attempts at political destabilization aimed at the party's leadership.
Vasilev categorically stated that targeted pressure is being exerted on mayors and municipal councilors in various municipalities, which he defined as "forceful takeover". According to him, the process includes attempts to replace legitimately elected local governors, which represents a direct attack on democratic principles.
Particularly indicative is the case of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, whom Vasilev described as a symbol of unlawful political persecution. "When you remove a legally elected mayor of the third largest city, this is an unprecedented scandal", he emphasized, criticizing the judicial system for its lack of objectivity.
The political leader revealed a large-scale strategy to discredit his formation, pointing out attempts at political crushing and corruption that, however, did not succeed. "They tried to destroy us politically - they failed", Vasilev stated categorically.
Among the main accusations are systematic attacks against institutions, including the court and prosecution, which according to him are acting under external pressure. He emphasized the existence of a "double standard" in justice, where some perpetrators receive lighter treatment than others.
An important emphasis in Vasilev's statement was the categorical rejection of any potential future governance with GERB and Boyko Borissov. "For us, Borissov is a closed chapter", he said, accusing the GERB leader of attempting to introduce discord and break up political formations.
Regarding the previous governance, Vasilev explained the logic of the coalition agreement, whose main priority was joining the Eurozone and Schengen. "We knew we were taking political risks, but the priority was achieving these strategic goals", he commented.
The politician did not miss criticizing the foreign ministry for its position regarding civic protests, stating that every European citizen has the right to participate in democratic events.
In conclusion, Asen Vasilev outlined a clear position - his party will continue to fight against attempts at political manipulation and will insist on the rule of law and democratic principles.
