Kabakum Beach Cleaned Up After Oil Spill

Kabakum Beach - North near Varna has been cleaned up after pollution from an accident at a hospital boiler room. The cleanup was carried out by the company managing the hospital and the Varna municipality.

Following a check for pollution with petroleum products, "Kabakum - North" beach near Varna has been cleaned, the Ministry of Environment and Water announced.

The cause of the pollution is an accident in the boiler room of the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital. The company managing the hospital took immediate action, and the cleaning activities started during the inspection.

Currently, the sandy beach is completely cleaned. Varna Municipality is to clean the deposits on the closed section of the concrete pipeline for surface and rainwater.

The signal for the pollution was received on January 31, 2026, by the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) in Varna through the "green phone" from the Single European Emergency Number 112, the department added. An immediate on-site inspection was carried out by experts from RIEW - Varna, the Black Sea Region River Basin Directorate, Varna Municipality, and the Ministry of Interior.

On Saturday, the Regional Administration in Varna announced that in the morning in the northern part of "Kabakum" beach, pollution with a used petroleum product, most likely fuel oil, was found. The signal was given by a person who lives in the area.
