Participants in a discussion organized by "We Continue the Change" (WCC) discussed the pension system and fair pensions in Bulgaria. The topic "Young Families and Incomes" is part of a series of debates under the motto "Strong Bulgaria in a Strong Europe".

Assen Vassilev, chairman of WCC, commented on the concept of "justice" in relation to fair pensions.

During the debate, Vassilev presented a presentation of the National Social Security Institute (NSSI) on the funds from which pensions are paid. The number of pensioners is relatively stable. The data show that during the period 2016-2025, the average pension tripled, the minimum - 4 times, but in 2025, the minimum pension was just below the poverty line. The number of pensioners with pensions below the poverty line has decreased.

Miroslav Marinov from the Bulgarian Association of Supplementary Pension Insurance Companies highlighted the three-pillar pension system and the high yield of the second pillar. He also noted that 25% of those working in Bulgaria are not up to date with their contributions.

Atanas Katsarchev from the Confederation of Labour "Support" stated the need for a roadmap for pension reform and a broad discussion on the protection of rights. He emphasized the importance of balancing the system.

Assen Vassilev reminded that the increase in pensions in 2021 was accompanied by a growth in insured persons and incomes, which led to an increase in contributions to pension funds.
