Traffic police is introducing increased measures for control and security on the roads throughout the country. Additional police teams will be deployed on the main road arteries, where they will monitor for violations.

Traffic on the "Trakia" motorway on the exit from Sofia towards Plovdiv is calm, but it is expected to increase significantly later in the day.

The heaviest traffic is expected to be on the main motorways – "Trakia", "Hemus", "Struma" and "Evropa". In this regard, the movement of heavy goods vehicles is temporarily restricted along the entire length of the "Trakia" motorway, as well as on the "Struma" motorway. Restrictions have also been introduced in the section from Sofia to the "Dermantsi" road junction on the "Hemus" motorway.

The Ministry of Interior assures that all necessary actions have been taken to ensure traffic:

Drivers are urged to comply with the introduced temporary traffic organizations, to follow road signs and, if necessary, to use alternative routes.

The organization of work of traffic police officers during the holidays has been changed. The control is mainly focused on the exits of cities and the main road directions.

The safety of travelers will be monitored by both marked police cars at conflict points and unmarked cars with police officers who will discreetly control traffic.

The control will be mainly directed towards aggressive drivers who do not fit into normal movement on the roads.

Statistics from previous years show that the most frequent violations during the holidays are failure to maintain distance, improper maneuvers, improper overtaking, and speeding.

This year, the measures will be even more intensified. Drivers are urged not to underestimate the road conditions before traveling, not to overestimate their abilities and those of the car, to start with enough fuel and with vehicles prepared for winter conditions, including winter tires.

The Traffic Police again reminds that if necessary, alternative routes should be used and risky maneuvers should not be undertaken. The appeal to all drivers is for patience and reason during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
