First Session of the 52nd National Assembly: What to Expect?

The first session of the 52nd National Assembly is convened on April 30th. The President will give an address, the deputies will take the oath, and a chairman and vice-chairmen will be elected. Statements from the parties are also expected.

The newly elected 240 MPs of the 52nd National Assembly will convene for their first session on April 30. 

President Iliana Iotova signed a decree to convene the first session, which will begin at 10:00 AM. Based on Article 75 of the Constitution, the President will address the members of parliament.

According to Article 76 of the Constitution, the session will be opened by the oldest Member of Parliament – Rumen Milanov from "Progressive Bulgaria".

The MPs will take an oath, after which they will sign oath sheets. The anthems of Bulgaria and the European Union will be played in the hall.

Traditionally, the parties and coalitions will make statements. This will be followed by the election of a speaker of parliament, who will give a speech.

Deputy speakers will also be elected, and the speaker will announce the parliamentary groups and their leaderships.

The Central Election Commission announced the distribution of mandates: "Progressive Bulgaria" (131), GERB-SDS (39), PP-DB (37), DPS (21), and "Vazrazhdane" (12). 57 of the MPs are women, 183 are men. PP proposed a common parliamentary union to DB under the slogan "Strong Bulgaria in a strong Europe", with two separate groups.
